Google Duo begins its merger with Meet: what are the new logo and platform functions look like?

Google Duo Icon changed, know the reason along with Google Duo, Meet combining

The Google Duo service would eventually absorb all of Google Meet's functionalities and would shortly mix them with those currently on the platform. The Google Duo app for Android and iOS has received an upgrade that includes video call features similar to those seen in Google Meet, as well as a new logo.

Google stated in early June that it will combine the Meet and Duo services to create a single platform for video chats and video conferences. Google Duo would eventually absorb all of Google Meet's functionalities and would shortly mix them with those currently on the platform. Users of Google Duo may now make video calls, utilize filters and effects, send messages to other contacts, and ask Google Assistant to initiate a call.

After the merging of both platforms, which began in mid-July and will culminate with a new Google Duo with its initial capabilities and those previously supplied by Google Meet, these features will be joined by others. This new platform will be named Google Meet, and it will provide users with choices that were previously unavailable in Duo. These include meeting scheduling, creation, and participation, as well as using chat with automated captions and virtual backdrops in meetings, better audio and video experiences with noise reduction, and communicating with groups of up to 100 people via video with no time restriction.

As the firm has highlighted in its support blog, the transition process has proceeded with a new version of the Google Duo programme, which has been upgraded to integrate the features of video calls and meetings characteristic of Google Meet. Similarly, the Google Duo icon has been replaced with the Google Meet icon, which is blue on a white backdrop. Instead, a video camera with Google's corporate colours (green, yellow, blue, and red) on a white background is presented.

The name change from Google Duo to the new Google Meet will happen later, "in the coming weeks," according to the firm, without stating when this will happen. The firm has stated that Google Meet will not be discontinued, but that following this upgrade, it will be renamed Google Meet (original) and will include a new logo including a green video camera.

Furthermore, Google has said that customers will be able to continue using the previous Google Meet app, which has the core functions of the service but does not include call capability.

Finally, Google has said that all users who have Google Meet (original) installed will be notified when they must switch to the new application experience, Google Meet, in order to utilise the merged functionality of both platforms. As a result, once the merger of Google Meet and Google Duo is finished, Google Meet (original) will no longer be supported, forcing users to install the new video conference platform.
